The Solid Solutions. Project numbering add in, once configured, can be triggered to act like any PDM serial number. This enables numbers to be assigned via a SOLIDWORKS save as a default value on any data card. Using the rename option in Copy or Move tree, or as we see here via a PDM template, a single serial number component can contain options for multiple configured number types. With the first example here, based on the project number variable value being read from the folder card of the new parts location, semi significant and significant part numbers can be configured with up to ten elements, but the key index fields used to allocate a specific numerical counter to the configured number. Multiple elements can be combined to create the key index. Elements consist of fixed text, such as a prefix or separator. PDM lists which, by using the alias type lists in PDM professional, means that we can select descriptive text from a list whilst adding a predefined alpha or numeric string to the key index and counters, where we would specify character length, starting value and how it will increment new numbers specified managed within the PDM administration tool After launching the configuration console, we can review and modify existing numbers and easily build an apply the rules for a new numbering requirement. A tier uses an alias list to replace the previous fixed text component before we then add a simple separator. And finally we will specify the requirements for the numeric counter itself, which in this case will be a four digit number starting at 1001 and then incrementing in single figures. Once saved, back to the database. This number is available straight away through the previous PDM template. The delivery and configuration of the project numbering add in is something that is already included as standard for customers who take our Foundation implementation package. The PDM professional for customers with older implementations, or for those who started with a fast start, the add in can also be purchased as a standalone product to be imported into any existing PDM professional vault.
