Scanning a 3D Model from a phone to SOLIDWORKS

January 15, 2026

This video demonstrates creating a mould in SOLIDWORKS using scan data captured via a smartphone with photogrammetry. The process begins by importing OBJ mesh data through the Geomagics add-in and applying auto-surfacing for organic geometry. Import diagnostics and dissolve features ensure clean surfaces, which are trimmed and converted into a solid body using knit surface tools. Reference planes and extrusions form mould blocks, followed by move/copy bodies and combine features to refine sections and add locating points. The workflow concludes with creating injection holes, saving bodies as separate parts, assembling them, and producing exploded views and animations for presentation.
