Ever created an animation in SolidWorks
composer
and the ground did some strange things.
This quick tip will hopefully solve
these problems
for you.
In our composer training sessions
we create this little animation
using keyframes.
However, what if I wanted some ground?
Well, easy.
Go to zero seconds and turn the ground on.
Perfect.
Oh, but
why does the part look like it's hovering?
And when I play.
Why does the ground both move up
and also get smaller?
Well,
because there are a couple of options
that people miss
when they want to set up the ground.
First, the height of the ground.
If I zoom out, you can see there is a cup.
This looks like it's hovering as well.
The cup has a square
boundary box around it,
and because it has an angle,
the boundary box is lower
than the actual geometry of the cup,
and therefore the ground has gone
to the bottom of that boundary box.
The reason for
this is the auto height is on.
Turn this off and then select.
Proceed on the set height on geometry
and it will jump to the bottom of the cup.
Great, but that's still not in the right
position for the coffee machine.
We can either manually pull it up
using the graphics handles
in the middle of the ground,
or hide the cup.
Use the set height on geometry option
and then show the cup again.
Because the auto height is turned off.
We should now have the ground
in the correct location.
However, when the cup comes in,
you can see the ground shrinks in size.
Just like the auto height.
We need to turn some auto options off
at zero seconds
so the ground is kept constant throughout.
So in the ground properties
there is an auto size
which sizes the ground
automatically to fit the visible actors,
and auto center, which centers
the ground
automatically to fit the visible actors.
Both of these, as well as the auto
height, can be controlled
with the auto fit option.
Turn this off.
Control the ground manually.
And your animation will look a lot neater.
Know.
