LAIKA uses 3D printers to produce facial animations on their stop motion films. For their film Coraline, the production team struggled because they had to hand paint each character's individual face. They decided to change to 3D printers and saw how accurate and repeatable its performance was. They were now able to do things that had never been done in stop motion films.
