Importing Data - Choosing the Best Format
Choosing the right file format is key to getting clean, accurate imports into SOLIDWORKS. Because SOLIDWORKS uses the Parasolid kernel, Parasolid files usually give the most reliable results, reducing translation errors compared with STEP or IGES. Import Diagnostics should always be used to repair faulty faces before continuing. Once imported, direct editing tools and FeatureWorks can recognise features such as holes, allowing them to be modified or replaced as if they were native SOLIDWORKS geometry. By repairing issues early and using kernel‑compatible formats, you minimise errors and ensure smoother downstream modelling.
