How to Open Files from the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform
View transcript
There are many different methods for opening files when using SOLIDWORKS with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. While the majority of these are unique to 3DEXPERIENCE, let's first explore opening files in SOLIDWORKS. When Opening SOLIDWORKS, you'll be greeted by the home screen. This is one of the many places we can see our recent documents. As we recently worked on our handle in a previous video we can see it included in this list. One tab over, we can also see a larger list of recent documents. Going to the file dropdown menu can also show us a list of recent documents. This menu also gives us the Open command which would be accessed through the shortcut CTRL + O and can be found in the top toolbar. When working with 3DEXPERIENCE, the open command gains some new options. First, we have the home button showing us our recent files again. Second, is the 3DSearch, which lets us search for files on the platform. Bookmarks are our third option, allowing us to browse through our bookmark structure and search for our file name. Fourth is ‘This PC’ option, which lets us browse for files on our local machine. In the 3DEXPERIENCE task pane on the right hand side of SOLIDWORKS, we can search for our file name similar to the search in the Open window just now. We can also access the Bookmark Editor app from the Compass in the top left. This lets us browse bookmarks like conventional folder structure in Windows Explorer. We can also select the 3DSpace app to take us to the browser and see all our files belonging to the selected 3D Space. While on the browser, we can view our data through the same apps we accessed from the add-in earlier. When looking in the Bookmark Editor, models can be previewed with 3DPlay by dragging them over to the 3DPlay app. Finally, in SOLIDWORKS, we can look at the next tab on the task pane - the ‘3DEXPERIENCE files on this PC’. This shows us a list of locally stored files that are uploaded to 3DEXPERIENCE and allows us to open files from here. This area allows us to safely delete these files from our hard drive, knowing that if we need them again, we can open them from 3DEXPERIENCE using one of the previous methods.
