Locking and unlocking files in a collaborative environment is how we indicate that the file is being worked on and also indicate that those changes are complete. A locked file can only be updated by the user is locked to. An unlocked file cannot be updated without first being locked. This is especially useful when working collaboratively on an assembly where a colleague can lock a component to work on, and your view of the assembly will indicate that they have it locked. Later, when their changes are complete, The 3DEXPERIENCE add-in will indicate that your colleague has uploaded the changes and unlocked the file. Locking a file updates the icon here to a green key. We can then unlock files from the right click menu. In this scenario we're looking at the larger grill assembly. We’ll make an edit now to the top level assembly. This includes components our colleague is currently working on. Let’s swap out the handle for the one we made previously and save this change to a 3DEXPERIENCE. This won't cause any issues for us as we're only going to be locking, editing and unlocking the assembly file in the safe window. We now have an option to unlock the file after saving our changes to the platform. Files don't need to be open to lock or unlock them. We can also lock or unlock files through the bookmark editor.
