Formula Student - Part 1 - Setup
The video explains the initial setup for designing a Formula Student chassis by establishing a robust reference framework. A coordinate system and key planes are created for the centreline, floor, roll hoops and wheelbase, ensuring symmetry and easy modification. 3D sketches define the main, mid and front roll hoops, shaped to comply with Formula Student rules and driver ergonomics. Nodes are strategically connected to form bulkhead bracing, suspension mounting boxes and cockpit triangulation around the 95th‑percentile driver template. The rear section is mirrored using 3D sketch tools, with SketchExpert used to resolve conflicts. Engine‑mounting geometry, suspension pickup points and wheel locations are incorporated to verify clearances and load paths.
