3DExperience
platform connects
the multiple CAD authoring tools.
In this video, we will look at how 3D
experience connect to the powerful CATIA
V5 software, complementing your design
workflow with additional PLM capabilities.
CATIA V5 can be launched
from a desktop shortcut or from your web
browser, which will open the native
install of CATIA V5.
The new 3DExperience tab can be accessed
in V5 to start a new design.
You can then utilize parts
and assembly templates to help ensure
consistency within the design team
CATIA environments and preferences
can also be controlled in the usual way
to lock down company
standards and settings,
you can select the workbench of choice
for the sheet metal part
and start designing the bracket.
Sheet metal parameters can be captured
specifying the plate thickness
and radius, as well as bend, extremity,
and bend allowance options.
Here, dimensions are captured
in 2D,
with depth being added by an extrusion.
corners
can also be added to remove sharp edges.
A wide array of sheet
metal features are available,
including stamps such as louvers,
ribs, and bridges, as well as flanges
with a standard hemmed
or teardrop to number but a few.
further design
changes can be made with the same familiar
workflow,
add a sketch and create your geometry.
Add constraints to ensure accuracy,
and then convert the sketch to a feature.
In this case,
it cut out through all geometry.
Once near the end of a design, validation
is possible using the unfold tool
and once happy, the model can be exported
to DXF for manufacture,
attributes are customizable and accessible
on the 3D experience platform.
It can be edited in CATIA as shown here.
These attributes
will then be searchable on 3D experience,
making it easy to find the parts
you need, when you need them.
The file can
then be saved up to the platform
with the dialogue
Given a summary of the proposed actions,
we can add the file to a project bookmark,
which is a convenient way
to store and locate
any CAD file or document.
You also have the option
to create a new revision branch,
as well as access to lifecycle commands.
Here we are going to lock the file
from the 3D experience toolbar,
which is another convenient way
to access the toolset
and indicates to others
that I'm actually working on the design,
the ownership being in my name.
Lifesycle
Changes can be made to the bracket
from within CATIA
or from your web browser.
This will start the approval process.
It's 85.
Operate seamlessly with a 3D experience
platform
utilizing the role
collaborative designer for CATIA V5.
Now the bracket is available
on the 3D Experience platform.
Your business will be well positioned
to make use of additional capabilities
such as mark up and measure,
issue and change management,
task and project management,
and much, much more.
Designers can continue to use the familiar
and powerful CATIA
V5 tools, but with the numerous benefits
of the 3DExperience platform.
