Opening a Drawing in Detailing Mode in SOLIDWORKS
Detailing mode has been in SOLIDWORKS for a long time. The idea is we want to make changes to a drawing like adding a note, or a symbol, but we don't need the model data for that. Detailing mode doesn't load the part in assembly data. As a result, the drawing opens much faster. In the example for this video, there's a lot of information in this drawing on multiple sheets, but it opened in just seconds. We can open an earlier version of a drawing even if we don't have all the information for the models. In this example, this drawing was last saved in 2020, and I don't have the assembly file on this computer. I can do a lot of things in this mode such as add notes, dimensions, symbols, and balloons to name just a few. If you work with large drawings, you may want to open them in detailing mode more often than not. In SOLIDWORKS 2024, we have an option to set the default to detailing mode. To set the defualt go to System Options > Drawings > Performance and check "Always open a drawing in detailing mode". Now detailing mode is the default.
